The No. 1 Henning Hornets took command from the opening tip-off running away from No. 2 Mahnomen-Waubun to advance to the Section 6A championship game after an 82-52 victory Wednesday, March 13 at The Hive Gymnasium in Perham. The Hornets forced turnovers on the defensive end and turned them into points quickly building a 15-2 lead on the defending champions three minutes into the game on a field goal by Isaac Fisher.
The Wadena-Deer Creek Shockers small-balled to an early lead and came up clutch in the ninth inning to spoil the home Hi-10 League opener 5-3 over the Detroit Lakes Angels on May 15 at Washington Park. The Shockers employed the sacrifice bunt to good use in taking a 2-0 lead after three innings of play.
