I am writing this as a Foster Grandparent at the Wadena-Deer Creek Elementary school. I've been participating in this program for the past 10 years. I call it my "life line" because of the support, friends, and it gives me something enjoyable to do. I especially enjoy working with children that need extra support or a listening ear and sometimes a hug. It gives me something to look forward to each day and a wonderful reason to get up in the mornings. It's fun to see a child's face when they understand or learn a new skill.
Thank you to the volunteers who so generously shared their time and talent for the 2018 Empty Stocking Talent Program. The 92nd annual program was a success due to your support. We are very fortunate to have so many talented individuals in our community. Diane Peters Talent coordinator
We sure are democrats! Number one, a gay person was elected and serving in the House. Number two, Michelle Obama puts out book, she never knew women have miscarriages and she's not alone! Number three, Omar serving in the Senate trying to work with Israel. Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanaugh's accuser saying she was traumatized. Why did she wait 22 years before coming out? At just the moment Brett Kavanaugh who had served on Court of Circuit thru former President George Bush finally gets his dream job! Grow up! Kathy Rohr, Wadena
To the editor:
The Wadena County Humane Society expresses their sincere appreciation to all who attended our annual Fall Chili Feed. To those who promoted the event, donated monies or items for the silent auction, supplies, or purchased T-shirts, calendars and items of the auction, THANK YOU. The time and efforts shown by the volunteers and staff made this event most profitable. It is the support of this community that helps continue the daily operation of the shelter and care of animals awaiting adoption to forever homes. Again, thank you, one and all. Wadena County Humane Society Board
To the editor: A lot of the outside world would like to see our beloved America crumble from within - there are inside forces working to obtain that goal. There are liberals and liberals with lots of money who want division and dissension in America and there is definitely a lot of that. Who do you think organized the huge caravan moving towards our border? Who do you think organizes the protesting in America? We had eight years of 'dictatorship' previously - hopefully Americans voted for America. Elaine Byman Wadena
The sunny sky felt so warm. Even a breeze was blowing. Most of the tree leaves are on the ground. Now we will have to wait until spring to see more leaves. Even blossoms in the lilacs like they were on the farm. Even the fruit trees will be in bloom, when the apples and plums will start to grow. The farmers are combining soybeans and corn. It's a real busy time of year for the farmers. Watch out for our farmers when they are moving equipment down the highways. Thomas Hostad Wadena
It seemed appropriate to share the words of Jeff Foxworthy at this time. "Lets see if I've got this! If you cross the North Korean border illegally you get 12 years hard labor. If you cross the Iranian border illegally you are detained indefinitely. If you cross the Afghan border illegally, you get shot. If you cross the Saudi Arabian illegally you will be jailed. If you cross the Chinese border illegally you may never be heard from again. If you cross the Venezuelan border illegally you will be branded a spy and your fate will be sealed. If you cross
I live in Precinct 3 in the city of Wadena and for many years went to vote at the elementary school. On August 14th, primary election day, we were directed to the Maslowski Wellness and Research Center to vote because of the construction project in the elementary school. I've been told, this Nov. 6th voting will again be at the Maslowskis. There may be other precincts here too. See you at the polls. Muriel M. Juers, Wadena
The school wants to permanently close Dayton Ave. SW, put the playground equipment in the street so they can use this space for buses. Please take a moment, drive around our community and observe the following: When Mid Central Federal Savings Bank needed additional parking, they removed the adjacent houses to the east for daily operations. When Wadena State Bank needed additional parking, they removed the adjacent houses to the south and west for daily operations.
