An 18-year-old Sebeka must serve seven years on probation and about 10 months in jail after shooting a handgun at three people in Perham last summer. Taylor Ray Allen Luster was sentenced Thursday, March 30, in Otter Tail District Court for the Aug. 5 shooting.
The amount of time it takes to look down at our phones—that is how quickly our lives can change forever or even end. Sadly, we were again reminded of this last week when a driver on Richwood Road north of Detroit Lakes was seen on his phone one minute, and rolling into a fiery crash the next. Although we didn't immediately know his name or the circumstances surrounding the moments leading up to his accident, our hearts sank for him and his family, who would soon be getting the news about him. It made us take stock of our own lives and how quickly things can change.
Alexandria man faces counterfeit money charges An Alexandria man was arrested in Benton County after a routine traffic stop and is facing charges of possessing counterfeit currency. According to the Benton County Sheriff's Office, James Earl Meyer, 53, attempted to use a counterfeit $100 bill at Hardware Hank in Rice about 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7.
BRAINERD, Minn. -- Rescuers were able to pull a woman from the water after she jumped from a downtown bridge over the Mississippi River Wednesday afternoon in Brainerd. A passerby reported she saw the woman climb over a fence on the south side of the Washington Street bridge and stopped to talk to her and try to convince her to come back. While the Good Samaritan was on the phone with the emergency dispatcher, the female refused to come back and subsequently jumped into the river below.

Chisago County man charged with killing neighbor A Chisago County man is facing murder charges after he allegedly shot his neighbor in a dispute over lake access. However, the suspect told authorities he acted in self-defense. According to the charges reported by the Post Review of Cambridge, 42-year-old Carl Patrick Anderson fatally shot Donn Allan Johnson, 62, on Wednesday in the 11600 block of Lindo Trail in North Chisago Lake Township. The two Lindstrom men clashed shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Two people were taken to the hospital after they hit a dog with their motorcycle. It happened on Highway 200 in Clover Township around 2 Saturday afternoon. 58-year-old Patrick Obryan of Bagley was driving the Harley Davidson motorcycle with 62-year-old Sharon Dyrdahl-Obryan also of Bagley. Authorities say a dog ran out on the highway and was then hit. It's unknown if the dog is still alive. The driver and his passenger are hurt but expected to be OK.
The woman killed Saturday night in a pedestrian train accident has been identified by authorities as 56-year-old Lynn Alexander of Detroit Lakes. At around 9 p.m. Saturday, Detroit Lakes police and paramedics responded to a report of an accident involving a pedestrian at a crossing at Washington Avenue and U.S. Highway 10, which is within sight of the town's train station and downtown. Upon arrival at the scene, officers and paramedics found the victim just west of Washington Avenue on the railroad tracks.
With the USDA's recent decision to take down Animal Welfare Act inspection reports, it is time to show the puppy mill industry that without transparency, the public will not buy into their business. Surely there are large-scale commercial dog breeding facilities that are top notch and ensure their animals are taken good care of; however, there are far too many that don't.
Anthony Dwayne Boldt Jr., 17, of Menahga, has been sentenced in Becker County Juvenile Court for felony first-degree and felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct, victim age 13-15 and 24 months or more younger than the perpetrator. Boldt appeared in court Jan. 23 before District Judge Mike Fritz, who stayed adjudication of sentencing and continued the case.
