Wadena firefighter Diggy Lorentz sprays out spot fires during a controlled burn on the northwest edge of town Monday night. The fire department set fire to acres of downed trees and brush, remnants of the EF4 tornado that ripped through the area in 2010. The smoke could be seen - and smelled - throughout Wadena and reportedly from many miles away.

Wadena firefighters accept a $2,400 gift from Whiskey Creek Saloon Friday in front of the bar. Whiskey Creek donated proceeds from the last three months of pull-tab sales. The money will go to buy fire department equipment.
