The Wadena-Deer Creek wrestling season came to an official close at the Section 6A Individual Championships at the Wadena-DC High School gymnasium on Feb. 23.

The Wolverines were hoping to make a splash and send a couple of individuals to the Class A Championships. However, a couple of tough losses prevented that from happening.

Wadena-Deer Creek's Cody Wheeler worked the long road to get to a true second match at 170. He was edged out by Dylan Fischer 1-0 in the true second match, blocking him from advancing to the Class A Championships.

Wheeler stumbled in the quarterfinals when he was upended by Ottertail Central's Caden Johnson by a 4-2 sudden victory decision. Wheeler bounced back with a fall over West Central Area-Ashby-Brandon-Evansville's Bret Duncan in the consolation round. He followed with another fall when he defeated Issac Deal of Border West at two minutes and 32 seconds. Wheeler continued his comeback bid with a 4-2 decision victory over Barnesville's Brady Kroll. Wheeler's run came to a close when Fischer edged him with a second period point, picking up the 1-0 victory.

Simon Snyder captured third place honors at 106 pounds. He suffered an opening round defeat to Barnesville's Ayden Hauck 6-4. Snyder worked his way back to the third place match by winning three straight. He defeated OTC's Kolby Peters by fall at 2:52, before putting Staples-Motley's Owen Winter to the mat at 2:30 in the third consolation round. Snyder defeated New York Mills' Chris Yoder in the consolation semifinals by fall at 4:48. He captured third place with a 6-2 decision win over David Revering of Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie. Snyder did not get an opportunity at a true second place match due to having been defeated by Hauck in the quarterfinals.

Mason Snyder captured fourth place honors for the Wolverines at 126. Snyder started strong with a quarterfinal round 3-2 victory over New York Mills' Carter Haman. However, he was defeated in overtime by BH/V/PP's Jason Koehn 7-5. Snyder rebounded with a pin of Payton Bjerga of Staples-Motley at 36 seconds in the consolation semifinal. However, his run was stopped by Haman in the third place match. Haman edged out Snyder 4-3.

Koby Endres finished sixth overall at 113, while Logan Wegscheid was sixth at 220. Connor Dirks came in eighth at 138, while Brayden Kleinke was eighth at 145. Brandon Wheeler and Braeden Sibert did not place.
