Wolverines open postseason with Barnesville

The Wadena-Deer Creek wrestling team closed out the regular season with a dual against Barnesville at the Wadena-DC Elementary school on Feb. 5.

The meet was a potential playoff preview. The Wolverines were defeated by Barnesville 51-18 in their final regular season dual of the season.

The Wolverines earned the No. 10 seed and will face Barnesville, who captured the No. 7 seed. The two teams will match up in the Section 6A Team Tournament on Feb. 12.

Barnesville comes in with three straight wins and sits with a 6-10 record overall. The Wolverines enter the contest with a 1-12 record in dual meets, but have shown improvement throughout the season. They have been without a key wrestler in Jayson Young, who has been out due to injury.

In their meeting in Wadena, the Wolverines picked up four victories. Simon Snyder earned a fall in 45 seconds against Barnesville’s Will Rots at 113 pounds.

Connor Dirks picked up a win for the Wolverines at 138. Dirks was victorious over Wyatt Roller by a 6-1 decision.

Braeden Sibert followed with a high-scoring match. He defeated Nate Rehder by a 9-7 decision at 145.

The last victory for the Wolverines came at 170. Wheeler defeated Barnesville’s Brody Kroll by fall at 4:41.

Ayden Hauck, John Roller, Chase Brenner, Tim Boone, Hunter Anderson, Tanner Kadrmas, Preston Snobl, Tim Wells and Jackson Poepping picked up wins for Barnesville during the match.

The winner of the Wadena-DC and Barnesville match will take on Ottertail Central, who earned the No. 2 seed following the conclusion of the match at 6 p.m.
