Wolverines downed by New York Mills in season-opening duel

The Wadena-Deer Creek wrestling season opened with a 52-15 defeat at the hands of New York Mills on Dec. 4 in New York Mills.

The Wolverines picked up a pair of victories from Jayson Young and Cody Wheeler, as well as a forfeit victory in the defeat.

Young picked up the victory over Derrik Wegscheid at 138. He was victorious by a 5-0 decision.

Wheeler was strong in his victory at 182 pounds. Wheeler earned a fall victory at five minutes and 38 seconds over Elliott Mann.

The Wolverines return to the mat at 6 p.m. on Dec. 6 at the Wadena-DC Elementary school gymnasium.
