Scott Woods hopes to take up right where Katrina Wahlin left off as head coach of the Wadena-Deer Creek girls' tennis team.

Woods, who coached the WDC boys' tennis team in a previous stint with the district, inherits 11 returning players from a team that Wahlin coached to a 10-6 record last year.

The Wolverines will be a team of underclassmen this season. Juniors on this year's team include Jess Rondestvedt, LaRissa Evans-Maisio, Nicole Miller, McKayla Woods and Whitney Eickhoff. Sophomore players will be Abby Westrum, Kate Schmidt and Lindy Jones. Freshmen on the team include Grace Hinojos and Shawna Clauson. Woods has two eighth-graders on the team in Kaylee Ova and Camille Taggart. A first-year player for the Wolverines will be seventh-grader Siobhane Touchette.

Gone from the ranks are No. 1 singles player Maddy Hinojos, No. 2 doubles player Elise Kallevig, No. 1 doubles player Erin Johnson and Tabetha Baker.

The Wolverines will travel to Pierz Sept. 1 and will host Roseau Sept. 2.
