Steph Perkins fought off control problems on a cold and blustery May afternoon to lead the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines to a 9-5 victory over Pelican Rapids.
Perkins issued six walks but fanned nine to gain the pitching victory. The senior standout scored twice and went 3-for-5 at the plate. Megan Schmidt backed up her classmate by going 2-for-4 with a double and three ribbies.
The victory was the 11th straight for Craig Klawitter's Mid-State Conference champions and their 16th in 17 games.
Amy Field had two hits for the Vikings.
Kaitlin Sillerud walked four and fanned four in suffering the pitching loss.
