It was a fitting end to the home season for the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines when they swept the Menahga Braves 25-17, 25-14 and 25-14, finishing a perfect season against Park Region Conference opponents on Oct. 17 in Wadena.
The Wolverines improved their season mark to 19-4 overall and 7-0 in conference play, capturing the Park Region Conference Championship.
The Wolverines were so dominant in conference play, they dropped just two sets of the 23 they played, rolling to the 7-0 mark. The Wolverines won their 21 sets by an average of 9.5 points per set.

Casey Volkmann finished with 14 kills, Ellie Miron finished with 11 kills and Kennedy Gravelle ended with 10.
One of the keys in the opening set was the service game of Katlyn Heaton. She helped the Wolverines gain control of the match. The teams were knotted at six when she stepped up to the line and rallied with five points in a row, giving Wadena-DC the 11-6 lead. She was able to close the set out at the line as well, serving the final four points, helping the Wolverines win set one, 25-17.
The teams were even in the early going of set two, but gained the lead behind a pair of serves from Volkmann. Wadena-DC maintained the edge and extended the lead behind Lila Lohmiller’s service run. She helped the Wolverines stretch a 16-12 lead to 22-12, before winning the set, 25-14.
Heaton’s service game played a big role in the third set as well. She served for eight straight points, helping Wadena-DC take a 16-8 lead. The Wolverines closed it out when Volkmann served the final two points, closing out Menahga, 25-14.
Along with the double digit kills from Miron and Gravelle, they provided a solid block finishing with four and six blocks, respectively. Ashley Adams distributed 36 assists and finished with seven blocks as well at the net. Heaton finished with three ace serves, while Lohmiller added four. Volkmann finished with two as well.
The Wolverines close out the 2017 regular season with the Moorhead Invitational on Oct. 20 and Oct. 21. They open pool play against Roseville at 5:15 p.m., before taking on Ada-Borup at 7:45 pm. The tournament continues on Oct. 21, pending the results of pool play. The games begin at 9 a.m. with the championship scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m.
