WDC, Verndale volleyers to host home matches Thursday

The Wadena-Deer Creek and Verndale volleyers have both drawn first round home matches Thursday.

Second-seeded Wadena-Deer Creek will host seventh-seeded Staples-Motley Thursday in a 7 p.m. South Sub-Section 8AA volleyball match.

The Wolverines enter the contest with a 19-8 record. The Cardinals bring a 6-20-1 mark into the match. The winner will face No. 3 Hawley (14-13) or No. 6 Breckenridge at 7 p.m. Friday at the home of the higher seed.

South Sub-Section 8AA's top seed, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton(20-6), earned a first round bye.

Thief River Falls(21-5) is ranked No. 1 in the north half of Section 8AA.

Sub-Section finals and the Section 8AA finals are set for Tuesday and Saturday at sites to be determined.

Third-ranked Verndale Section 5A and will entertain No. 6 Eagle Valley in a West Sub-Section 5A playoff match at 7 p.m. Thursday. The winner squares off Friday at 7 p.m. in Bertha-Hewitt with the second-seeded Bears.

Sebeka is rated No. 1 in the west half of Section 5A while Braham is ranked No. 1 in the east.

The Section 5A title match is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, in Pierz.
