Wadena's Jesse Wannemacher defeated Loren Jones for the 145-pound title Oct. 19 at the North Star Combat III mixed martial arts competition in Mahnomen.
Wannemacher won by submission with a north-south choke in the first round.
Wannemacher will be one of the local MMA fighters competing Jan. 19, when the Wadena Armory hosts a sanctioned MMA card at 7 p.m. Eight fights are currently scheduled, STOMP's Joe Jasicki said. Three more are likely to be added before the event.
The STOMP MMA and CFX production will see Wannemacher competing, along with Wadena fighters Jerdan Stinar, Cody McManigle, Ethan and Mark Niemala, Tony Houn and Joel Snyder. Jasicki said a victory in the Wadena event could give Wannemacher a shot at a title fight in the
Target Center.
