The Wadena-Deer Creek volleyball team showed there was no letdown after it's highly contested victory over Henning when it disposed of Pelican Rapids 25-22, 25-10 and 25-17 on Sept. 23 in Pelican Rapids.
It can be tough to avoid a letdown after an emotionally charged match like the Wolverines played against Henning, but the Wolverines showcased they had too much power for the host Vikings. Kennedy Gravelle finished with 16 kills, while Madison Carsten finished with 13 kills.
The Vikings were fired up on Parent's Night, but could not overcome the Wolverines. The Vikings erased a four-point deficit and took a 19-18 lead in game one, but Wadena-DC scored six of the final nine points for the win. It ended with a kill by Lauryn Gravelle, who finished with three on the night.
Carsten started the second game with a 7-0 service run that featured multiple ace serves. It was a lead the Wolverines would extend to as many as 16 points at 20-4. The Wolverines quickly closed out with a 25-10 win in game two.
The Wolverines controlled much of the third game as well, building up an early lead. However, a short Pelican Rapids' run put some pressure on the Wolverines. However, the Wolverines took control with a 7-3 spurt in the middle of the match, before closing out with a 25-17 victory.
Kennedy Gravelle and Madison Carsten led the way at the service line, both recording three ace serves. MacKenzie Carsten finished with 36 set assists, while Courtny Warren tallied six digs.
The Wadena-DC Wolverines extended their winning streak to five straight games and improved their season mark to 9-4 overall. The Wolverines are back home for a contest against Verndale on Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
