The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines picked up their second win at home with a 25-18, 25-18 and 25-17 victory over Menahga in the 2019 Park Region Conference Opener on Sept. 5 in Wadena.
Kennedy Gravelle led the way with 16 kills for the Wolverines. Madison Carsten added eight kills as well in the sweep for the Wolverines. Courtny Warren finished with 15 digs, while MacKenzie Carsten had 31 set assists and four ace serves in their Park Region Conference opener.
After the victory against Menahga, the Wolverines traveled to participate in the annual Sauk Rapids-Rice Tournament. The Wolverines finished with a 2-2 mark with wins over Kimball Area and Brainerd, while falling to Albany and Royalton.
The Wolverines defeated Kimball Area 25-13 and 25-17 for their first tournament win. The Wolverines opened pool play with a 19-25, 25-16 and 11-15 defeat to Albany.
The Wolverines responded after dropping the first set against Brainerd, 16-25, to win the second 25-19 and the third 15-10 for their second win of the tournament. However, Wadena-DC couldn't slow the momentum of Royalton in their final match. The Wolverines won the first game 25-17, but dropped the second and third games, 34-36 and 14-16.
The Wolverines sit at 4-4 overall and hosted Nevis on Sept. 10, before traveling to Bertha to take on the Bertha-Hewitt Bears for their second Park Region Conference contest of the season on Sept. 12.
