Wadena-DC boys first at Pillager

The Wadena-Deer Creek boys track and field team started the outdoor season with a bang when they competed at the Park Rapids Invitational on April 16 and the Pillager Invitational on April 18.

Pillager Invitational

The boys team cruised to its first team win of the season at the Pillager Invitational when they finished with 205 points. Pillager was second with 146 points, followed by Parkers Prairie in third and Pine River-Backus in fourth place. Royalton rounded out the top five.

The Wolverines showcased their depth in the track and on the field during the victory at Pillager. Isaac Hale earned first place honors in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.05 seconds. Bereket Loer topped the field in the 400m dash at 53.86, while Josh Tabery earned first place honors in the 1600m run at 5:04.60.

Cooper Folkestad in the discus

The 3200m relay team of Loer, Tabery, Nate Bervig and Lucas Hinojos finished first overall at 8:49.94.

Cody Wheeler earned top honors in the pole vault with a winning vault of 11 feet, six inches. Cooper Folkestad had the longest throw in the shot put with a winning put of 51 feet, nine inches.

Isaac Hale was second in the 200m dash, while Hinojos came in second in the 800m run. Nate Bervig came in second of the 3200m run, while Wyatt Peterson earned second place finishes in the 110 and 300m hurdles. Brady Domier was second in the pole vault, while Folkestad was second in the discus.  The Wolverines earned second place in the 800m relay with the team of Hale, Peterson, Dawson Lupkes and Cole Dunker. The 1600m relay team of Dunker, Hinojos, Domier and Codey Wolff came in second as well at Pillager.

Park Rapids Invitational

The Wadena-Deer Creek boys team posted a fourth place finish at the Park Rapids Invitational on April 16. The Wolverines traveled with a partial team to the event. The Wolverines were without their pole vaulters and throwers for the meet.

Park Rapids Area finished first with 157 points, while Osakis was second with 94 points. Staples-Motley came in third with 86.50 points, while Wadena-DC finished with 85.33 points.

Cade Kapphan earned top honors in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, nine inches for Wadena-DC.

The 400m relay team of Chase Domier, Isaac Hale, Dawson Lupkes and Wyatt Peterson finished first at 46.00 seconds, while the team of Domier, Hale, Lupkes and Loer came in first in the 800m relay at 1:33.49, which is the fourth fastest in the Wadena-DC record book.

Wyatt Peterson was second in the in the 300m hurdles. The team of Cole Dunker, Brady Domier, Hinojos and Hale came in second in the 1600m relay.
