On their home course, the Pelican Rapids Vikings earned top honors in the Section 6A Girls True Team Championships on May 10, earning a spot at the Class A True Team Championships in Stillwater, Minn.

The Vikings were able to hold off a surging Osakis Silverstreaks team for the title. Pelican Rapids finished with 712.5 points, while Osakis came in second at 680.5 points. Wadena-Deer Creek finished fifth overall with a score of 579.5 points.

The Wolverines had several top finishes in the event that every competitor records points towards to the team’s final score. Unlike most meets, the true team championships record points for every place in the line-up. Each individual event has two competitors from each team competing and in the relays, only one team from each school competes.

Mikaela Malone continued her dominant run in the sprints during the championships. She finished first with a time of 12.61 seconds, blistering the competition for the win. Malone helped the 400m relay team to a first place finish as well. She was joined by McKenna Wangsness, Madison Packer and Ellie Miron on the way to first place. They finished with a time of 53.35 seconds.

Kennedy Gravelle earned a pair of second place finishes. She was second in the 3200m run with a time of 12:12.80 and was second in the high jump, clearing four feet, 10 inches. She earned a fourth place finish in the discus event as well.

Miron continued her strong season in the throws. The state placewinner came in second in both the shot and the discus. Miron added a fifth place finish in the 200m dash.

The Wolverines have an outside shot at a wildcard spot for the Class A True Team Championships. Each team that finished second through fifth will be entered into a virtual meet to determine the four wildcard spots for the championships.
