The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines tuned up for their final games of the regular season Tuesday with a 3-0 sweep over Mid-State foe Crosby-Ironton.
The No. 3 state-ranked Wolverines chalked up victories of 25-8, 25-11 and 25-16 on the C-I court. Sue Volkmann's club improved to 20-0.
Brittney Noon and Kelsi Crawford led the Wolverines with 12 and 10 kills respectively. Hope Theisen had a big defensive night with 17 digs. Mandy Perkins and Avery Jackson both came up with 11. Courtney Volkmann was murder at the serving line as she converted on 16 of her 18 attempts for seven aces. Perkins was a perfect 11 for 11 with three aces. Rachel Craig set the tone at the net with 11 blocks. Volkmann came up with 35 assists.
Section 8AA tournament play is slated to begin Oct. 28. The Wolverines are the top team in the south half of Section 8AA. DGF is currently No. 1 in the top half. Ranked one and two in Class AA are Jackson County Central and Hutchinson. The Wolverines are shooting for their third straight trip to the Class AA state tournament in St. Paul Nov. 11-13.
