A pair of third period goals helped the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines erase a two-goal deficit and force a 3-3 overtime tie with Northern Lakes in a Mid-State Conference boys hockey game on Dec. 11 at the Breezy Point Arena.
Max Phillips tallied in the first period and his second goal of the game, late in the third period forced overtime, helping the Wolverines pick up the tie with the Lightning. Justin Dykhoff scored for the Wolverines as well in the third period.
Phillips continued his scoring knack for the Wolverines. He leads the team with 12 goals and 17 points. Both of his goals were assisted by Lleyten Pettit, who is second on the team in scoring. Pettit has five goals and 11 assists.
Phillips opened the game with a power play goal in the first period, which was assisted by Pettit and Schertler. However, Northern Lakes responded with three straight goals, a first period goal from Shane Donovan, followed by a second period tally from Donovan and Kasey Couture. Donovan finished with a three point night, tallying twice and assisting on another. Couture finished with a goal and two assists.
The Wolverines responded with a pair of goals in the third period. Justin Dykhoff recorded his second goal of the season in the third period. Phillips scored late in the third period, which tied the game at three.

Josh Dykhoff stopped 48 of 51 shots in the tie, while Sam LeMieur finished with 30 saves on 33 shots for Northern Lakes.
The Wolverines return to the ice with a Mid-State Conference clash against Park Rapids Area on Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Wadena Ice Arena.
