The Wadena-Deer Creek Tennis team suffered a pair of 7-0 defeats against Detroit Lakes and Crookston in Detroit Lakes at the Detroit Lakes Triangular on Sept. 7.
The Wolverines put up some good efforts in a losing battle against Detroit Lakes, dropping several close sets in the 7-0 defeat.
Madison Packer was knocked off in three sets 6-2, 3-6 and 6-10 against Detroit Lakes' Brina Smith. Corra Endres was edged out by Shelby Busker 6-7 and 1-6 at No. 2 singles. Libby Hartmann suffered a 4-6, 5-7 defeat to Josey Allen at No. 3 singles, while Genevieve Pinella was defeated by Siri Vagle, 4-6, 3-6, at No. 4 singles.
The team of Kaylee Ova and Ashley Peterson were defeated by Mary Nelmark and Emily Skjonsberg at No. 1 doubles, 2-6, 3-6. The team of Nevada Schulz and Katie Fiemeyer were edged out by Makenna Duncan and Chloe Will at No. 2 doubles, 1-6, 2-6, and the team of Kayla Meeks and Madelyn Gallant took a 1-6, 5-7 defeat at the hands of Marit Engum and Mya Anderson at No. 3 doubles.
The close defeats continued for Wadena-DC when they faced off with Crookston in their second match of the day. Packer lost in three sets to Catherine Tiedemann, 3-6, 7-5 and 6-10. Endres retired from her match due to an injury at No. 2 singles. Hartman was edged out by Emma Osborn, 0-6, 1-6, at No. 3 singles and Kelly Muckala took a 2-6, 1-6 loss to Halle Bruggemann.
The doubles team of Peterson and Ova were defeated by Hayden Winjum and Hannah Lindemoen in straight sets 1-6, 1-6. The team of Schulz and Fiemeyer were edged out by Emma Gunderson and Eden Haller at No. 2 doubles, 2-6, 1-6. Meeks and Gallant were defeated 4-6, 1-6 at No. 3 doubles by Audrey Harbott and Brekken Tull.
The Wolverines return to action with a triangular meet at the Wadena Tennis Courts on Sept. 12, beginning at 1 p.m. Wadena-DC will take on East Grand Forks and Parkers Prairie.
