Wadena-Deer Creek’s Madison Packer continues to settle into her role as the No. 1 player for the Wolverines. The sophomore continued her winning ways on Aug. 28 when she earned a victory over Roseau’s Lindsay McFarlane.
Packer finished the 2018 season with 19 wins and has since moved into the No. 1 spot on a young, but experienced tennis team. The Wolverines have just two seniors on the roster.
Packer said she played well and was very consistent with her drop shots in a 6-1, 6-2 victory over McFarlane.
Packer said the key to her strong start to the season has been her serving and keeping balls deep on her opponents.

Packer said they are a young team, but have a lot of potential.
Packer has had to make an adjustment moving into the No. 1 spot. It’s an adjustment she has made quickly with a strong start to the season.
“It’s different, but it’s a good experience,” Packer said. “I’m learning to grow from this spot. (I hope) to do well in sections and for our team, overall, to just do well and bond together.”
