This year has been an unprecedented one in education. Daily, we are evaluating the status of COVID-19 within the district, and the learning model for our district. This daily decision-making process is not a cut-and-dry look at the numbers, but instead what Deputy Commissioner of Education Heather Mueller calls “the scalpel approach.”

Throughout the summer, the faculty and staff at Staples-Motley School District have been hard at work preparing for the new school year as we adapt to COVID-19. This past week the Governor announced that local districts may decide their reopening plan based on some specific, county-level data and consultation with local health officials. With those details in hand, we shared with families and staff that based on the current data, we will be reopening with in-person learning available for all this September. A refined distance learning model is available to families who request it.
A balanced offensive attack and an adjustment on defense allowed the Staples-Motley Cardinals to earn a 64-47 season-opening victory over Wadena-Deer Creek on Nov. 21 in girls basketball.
The Wadena-Deer Creek girls tennis team dropped a pair of dual meets on Sept. 17 in Crosby when they were defeated 6-1 by the Crosby-Ironton Rangers and the Staples-Motley Cardinals.
