ST. PAUL — The Wadena Youth Hockey Mite team skated in front over 18,000 adoring fans on Thursday, March 24, at the Xcel Energy Center.
Those attending even got to see the Minnesota Wild play and defeat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 in overtime.
The visit allowed the Mites a chance to feel the atmosphere of a professional game, something that will likely stick with them for life. The Wild got to see what fine talent is on the way out of Wolverine Territory.
The Minnesota Wild provide youth programs across the state the opportunity to participate at an on-ice scrimmage as part of their partnership with Minnesota youth hockey associations. Each year, the Wadena Hockey association works with Wild staff to select a game and group of kids that participate. The team selected gets the on-ice scrimmage, a Wild gift pack and video board recognition on top of enjoying a great NHL game.
