Track and field: Wadena-Deer Creek qualifies for state meet in five events

PELICAN RAPIDS – The Wadena-Deer Creek track and field teams will be represented in five events at the Class A state meet this weekend at St. Michael-Albertville High School.

WDC took home five first and second-place finishes at the Section 6A finals in Pelican Rapids on Thursday morning. The top two qualifiers in each event, or any athlete that meets the state standard for an event, qualifies for the state meet June 9-11.

Brady Domier won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.07. He also won the pole vault competition at 12-feet, 9-inches.

Domier will be competing in three events at the state tournament. The 4x200-meter relay team of Matthew Pugsley, Domier, Charlie Bushiner and Lyrik Haug took second place with a time of 1:35.19.

Amber Collins won a section championship in the 400-meter dash. She took first place with a time of 1:01.87. Pugsley is also headed to state in the 400-meter race after taking second with a time of 53.20.


The Wadena-Deer Creek girls took eighth place as a team with a score of 43.50. The boys took third place in the team standings with 69 points. Perham won both Section 6A team championships.
