Track and field: Wadena-Deer Creek girls win Park Region title, boys take fourth

Results from Wadena-Deer Creek track and field in the Park Region Conference championships.

WADENA – The Wadena-Deer Creek girls track and field team took home the Park Region Conference Championship on Tuesday at Wadena-Deer Creek High School.

The Wolverines finished with a total of 141 points and five first-place finishes.

Isabelle Larson had an impressive afternoon. She took first place in the pole vault at 8-feet, 6-inches. She also took second in the triple jump (33-feet, 9.5-inches) and third in the high jump (4-feet, 8-inches). Larson ran in the first leg of WDC’s 4x200-meter relay with Lydia Oldakowski, Kaylee Collins and Madison Packer.

The relay team of Packer, Kaylee Collins, Oldakowski and Layla Sharp took first in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 54.45. The 4x400-meter relay team of Britta Sweeney, Emma Schmitz, Ally Pavek and Amber Collins took first with a time of 4:21.28.

Amber Collins took home a pair of individual first-place finishes. She paced the 400 (1:-01.09) and 800-meter (2:27.31) races.

In the field events, Lauryn Gravelletiik was second in the discus throw at 104-feet, 7-inches. She also took sixth place in the shot put at 29-feet, 3.5-inches, which was just over a foot behind Gracie Arm’s third-place length of 30-feet, 5.5-inches. Parker also took second place in the long jump at 15-feet, 4-inches.

The Wolverines were 41 points better than Ottertail Central in second place. Pillager (99), Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale (96) and United North Central (60) rounded out the top five.

WDC boys finish fourth

Brady Domier notched the only two first-place finishes for the WDC boys on Tuesday.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Domier paced the pack with a time of 16.67. He also pole vaulted 14-feet, 6-inches, which was two feet better than teammate Charlie Bushinger in second place.

Domier and Bushinger ran in the Wolverines’ second-place 4x200-meter relay with Matthew Pugsley and Lyrik Haug to a time of 1:35.53. Tayton Lehmann, Bushinger, D’Andre Hammond and Haug also took second in the 4x100-meter race at 46.34.

Bjorn Brunsberg took home a runner-up finish in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:46.07. Haug took home WDC’s fifth second-place finish of the afternoon in the high jump at 5-feet, 10-inches.

The Wolverines were only 34 points behind first-place Pillager for the conference championship. Parkers Prairie (114) and Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale (108) were all at the top of the Park Region standings.
