Softball: Wolverines come up cold against Park Rapids

The Wadena-Deer Creek softball team traveled to Frazee to take on Park Rapids in a unique makeup game situation on Friday night that had them face off against the Panthers directly after Park Rapids finished an earlier game with Frazee.

FRAZEE — The Wadena-Deer Creek softball team faced off against Park Rapids on Friday night in their final game of the regular season.

The Wolverines fell 14-3 in six innings in a game where they couldn't find the gaps offensively. It was part of a chilly Friday tripleheader.

Park Rapids batted through the order in the top of the first and second inning—putting up a combined seven runs on four extra-base hits and six walks.

The Wolverines answered in the third inning when Jada Dykhoff knocked in Madelyn Gallant with an RBI single to center field. However, the Panthers fired back in the fourth by putting up five runs off of a two-RBI triple from Abby Morris, an RBI single from Nora Cederstrom, an RBI double from Tori Weaver and a fielder's choice grounder from Anna Yliniemi.

WDC tacked on its last two runs of the game in the fourth inning when Addison Carr smacked a double into the left field gap, scoring Gallant and Hailey Kircher. That cut the deficit to nine runs.

After a scoreless fifth inning, Park Rapids knocked in its final two runs in the sixth off a Tori Weaver RBI single and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Chloe Tretbar. The Wolverines were held scoreless in the bottom of the frame, giving Park Rapids the win by the mercy rule.

Allison Offerdahl recorded the win on the mound for the Panthers, giving up three runs in four innings. Tretbar closed the final two scoreless innings out for the Panthers on the mound. Dykhoff pitched all six innings for the Wolverines.
