Golf: Wadena-Deer Creek golf teams compete for Mid-State Conference championships

DETROIT LAKES – The Wadena-Deer Creek golf teams competed in the Mid-State Conference championships on Monday afternoon at the Detroit Lakes Country Club.
Junior Cole Woods paced the boys team to a score of 375 and a sixth-place finish. He carded an 89 with three pars on the front and back nines. Senior Aidan Allred had the second-lowest score for the Wolverines at 22-over-par. He made five total birdies for a 93.

Isaac Christianson and Cole Berglund rounded out the scoring players for the Wolverines with a 96 and a 97, respectively. Jaeger Pettit (99) and Eshetu Loer (108) also competed without factoring into the scoring.
Freshman Carter White of Staples-Motley won the individual conference championship with the medalist score of 73. He was even par on the front nine with birdies on Nos. 1 and 7 before making seven pars on the back.

Detroit Lakes finished with a team score of 315 to win its 28th consecutive conference title. Pequot Lakes (322) and Staples-Motley (344) rounded out the top three spots.

The Wadena-Deer Creek girls were led by seventh-grader Emma Weniger. She shot the lowest team score at 102 and made two par putts on the front nine.

Kayla Meeks wasn’t far behind Weniger with a score of 118. Amara Neuerburg and Libby Hartman each shot a 121 to give the Wolverines a total of 462 and a fifth-place finish. Kelanie Oldakowski (149) was the fifth and final Wolverine who competed on Monday. Wadena-Deer Creek was one stroke better than Crosby-Ironton-Aitkin.
Park Rapids sophomore Anna Eckmann edged out Knoop for the individual conference champion honor with a six-over-par 77. She was even on the front nine with an eagle on No. 1. She also made par on the last three holes on the back nine. Detroit Lakes beat Pequot by 29 strokes for its 12th straight conference title.
