Cross country: Sweeney, Hoefs pace Wolverines in Perham
The Wadena-Deer Creek cross country teams ran in Perham on Thursday. Three Wolverines ran personal best times, which set a new program record for a single day.

PERHAM – The Wadena-Deer Creek girls cross country team went into the Perham Invitational as the eighth-ranked team in Class A.
The Wolverines took seventh place in another great showing in a field of 28 teams ranging across all three classes. Britta Sweeney paced the WDC girls with a 23rd-place finish in 19:40.
Amber Collins clocked in at 20:33, which was good enough for 46th place. Lydia Oldakowski was right behind her in 48th (20:38), followed by Brielle Kern (21:04, 60th) and Karly Haverkamp (21:05, 61st).
Perham won the event with a team score of 60. The Wolverines took seventh place with 230 points.
The WDC boys also ran on Thursday. They came in 15th place with a score of 401.

Lane Hoefs ran the fastest time WDC 31st place in 17:12. Phillip Ross clocked in at 18:16, followed by Isaac Heppner (19:20, 102nd), Bjorn Brunsberg (19:20, 103rd) and Cooper Dalmo (19:20, 104th).
The Wolverines had three total runners finish with personal records, which is a program best in a single day. Sweeney became the second girls runner to beat the 30-minute mark, joining her sister Kira Sweeney.
