Baseball: BHV state bound after defeating Hinckley-Finlayson

The Raiders Class 1A quarterfinal game will be held in St. Cloud Tuesday, June 14, against an opponent to be announced this weekend.

PIERZ — The Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders are moving on to the Class 1A State Tournament after winning Game Two 4-1 against the Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars in the Section 5-1A Championship Thursday, June 9.

The Raiders scored one run in the first inning in Game Two and never looked back as they captured a 4-1 victory to secure their state tournament berth.

Hinckley-Finlayson took Game One, helped by a four-run outburst in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Jaguars expanded their lead to 6-2 before a Raider seventh-inning comeback fell short as the final score ended 6-4.

BHV takes an 11-14 record into the state tournament and their Class 1A quarterfinal game was to be held in St. Cloud Tuesday, June 14, at 6 p.m. against New York Mills.
