The Verndale Pirates had no answer for sharpshootter Tatum Sheley in a 70-45 loss to the Pine River-Backus Tigers Monday night in Pine River.
Sheley tacked up a game-high 29 points as the Tigers handed the Pirates their third straight loss after a 2-0 start.
Teresa Moenkedick led the Pirates with 20 points. Kirstin Korfe had 14 points in the loss.
