Wadena-Deer Creek Legion Post 171 got the best of fifth-seeded Cass Lake as playoffs began, after suffering a regular season loss to Bertha-Hewitt.

Cody Redfield got the win, striking out 12 over 7 innings while allowing just five hits and three walks.

"Redfield threw a great game when we had to have it," Coach Kyle Dykhoff said.

Matt Hagen went 3-3 with 2 runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI. Cody Redfield was 2-3 with two RBI, Colter Pettit drove in a run and scored one after going 1-3, and Cole Lugert went 1-3 with a stolen base and a run, and also relieved Redfield on the mound.

It was a win Dykhoff said the team needed after a loss to Bertha-Hewitt.
