Teresa Moenkedick had 18 digs and five kills as the Verndale Pirates claimed a tough 3-1 victory Tuesday night over New York Mills.
Shelley Glenz saw her Verndale volleyers dominate the first game 25-4. The Eagles turned the tables in Game 2 to gain a 26-24 victory. After the Pirates won a 25-15 decision in Game 3, Eagles gave them another tussle before losing a 28-26 squeaker.
Megan Richter backed up Moenkedick with four kills and also added six blocks and seven digs.
Jordanna Schluttner and Ashley Richter combined for 19 digs and four aces serves. Kaitlyn Richter and Elizabeth Johnson teamed up for 23 set assists. Johnson had a good all-around night and led the team with four ace serves.
Lexi Rankka had 13 assists for the Eagles while Megan Cole recorded seven kills and Jackie Imsande blocked nine shots.

Pirates go 1-3 at Hancock Tournament
A victory over Ashby gave the Pirates their only win Saturday in the Hancock Tournament.
After falling 25-14, 25-11 to Breckenridge, the Pirates tripped the Arrow twice by identical 25-21 scores. Shelley Glenz saw her Pirates close out pool play by losing to Hancock 25-8, 25-17.
The Pirates gave the West Central Area Lady Knights a tussle in tournament play. WCA claimed a 25-23 victory in Game 1. The Pirates jumped back for a 25-22 win in Game 2. The Lady Knights claimed a 15-13 thriller in Game 3.
Teresa Moenkedick tied Kaitlyn Richter with 16 kills and Ashley Richter with 32 digs. Elizabeth Johnson paced the Pirates with 34 set assists while Kaitlyn Richter added 30. Megan Richter had 14 kills. Ashley Richter and Jordanna Schluttner both had four ace serves.
The Hancock Owls edged Breckenridge 25-21, 25-19 for top honors in the tournament.
