Pirate volleyers post 3-1 win

The Bulldogs claimed a narrow 25-23 victory in Game 1 but the Pirates won the next three 25-16, 25-14, 25-19.

Jamie Kern came up with a pair of blocks for the Pirates who improved their record to 2-1.

The Pirates host Nevis Tuesday and travel to Henning Thursday.

Eagle Valley 23-16-25-25-8

Finck had 48 digs and 15 kills as the Pirates chalked up their first victory of the season by edging Eagle Valley in five games.

Richter contributed 40 digs and six ace serves while Elizabeth Johnson collected five blocks.

Parkers Prairie 25-25-25

Verndale 8-16-20

Sari Noga and the veteran Panthers established themselves quickly en route to a three-game sweep over Verndale in the season opener for both clubs.

The Parkers Prairie three-sport star, who has verbally committed to play basketball at the University of Minnesota in 2010, unleashed a massive kill on the first play of the game and the Panthers went on to claim a 25-8 victory. The Pirates rallied to score 36 points in games two and three.

Finck led the Pirates with 14 digs and 10 kills. Jamie Kern blocked five shots in the loss.
