Hard-hitting Hornets sting Raiders in 6A playoffs

Frazee's eight-run outburst in the sixth inning ended Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale's title hunt Tuesday in the Section 6A softball playoffs at Alexandria.

The Hornets sent 13 batters to the plate in their big sixth inning which gave them a 13-6 cushion.

Josi Tappe was Frazee's top stick with three hits. Tappe combined with Hailee Oswald to drive in four runs. Jo Shipman, Katie Smith and Jaden Ketter teamed up to score seven runs.

Elyssa Kern, Hannah VanHale and Kylee Wright combined for six hits, three runs and two RBIs in the loss. Jordyn Glenz scored three times and drove in three runs. Sydney Weniger had two RBIs.

Jordan Carr was touched for 11 walks and 12 hits in the game. Only five of the 14 runs charged to the BHV hurler were earned. Shipman packed in the win.

The Raiders ended the season with a 15-6 record.
