Wadena native Cooper Folkestad has qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Nationals in shot put after tossing his best of the season on Saturday.

Folkestad heads there after he took second at the Wartburg NCAA Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday, March 5, in the men's shot put with a heave of 54 feet, 1 1/4 inches. Folkestad came through with his best mark of the season in the shot put on his very last attempt in the very last qualifying meet. He uncorked a throw which is No.6 in the nation and second farthest in school history.

Folkestad will have to wait for Day 2 for his national meet appearance. The shot put is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.

“This is the highest/biggest meet in college” exclaimed WDC head Track and field coach Marc Reynolds. “A very big accomplishment just to get to nationals.”

Cooper graduated from WDC in 2020 and is currently a sophomore majoring in Art at Concordia College in Moorhead.
