Blue Devils complete season sweep

Katelyn Barthel came up with two goals and Sarah Najjar had a four-point game as the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines cruised to an 8-2 victory Tuesday at Morris.

The Blue Devils broke a short two-game losing streak while improving their season record to 5-12.

Najjar had a goal and three assists. Brooke Umland chipped in with a pair of goals and Katelyn Peters had a goal and two assists.

Tuesday's win gave the Wolverines a regular-season sweep over the Storm, who fell to 2-12-1 after a sensational 21-4 season last year.

Detroit Lakes 9, LPGE/WDC 1

The trio of Ashley Friesen, Brianna Seebold and Emily Payne accounted for four goals Thursday as the Detroit Lakes Lakers skated to a convincing 9-1 victory over the young Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek Blue Devils.

Friesen came up with two goals while Payne and Seebold iced one goal each.

Payne recorded a playmaker for the Lakers while Friesen and Seebold combined for three assists.

Monica Hill iced two third period goals for the Lakers.

Sam Killian opened the second period scoring with a feed from Kylee Damm at the 9:42 mark. The goal cut DL's lead to 2-1 but it started a string of seven unaswered goals by Detroit Lakes.

Veronica Roy stopped 21 shots to earn the net victory. Angela Hanson kicked out 42 shots in the loss.
