Wadena-DC snaps skid with road win

Wadena-Deer Creek snapped its five-game losing streak with a big night from forward Cooper Folkestad. Folkestad helped the Wolverines take down Menahga 67-58 in Menahga on Jan. 8.

Folkestad led all scorers with 25 points on 10 of 17 shooting from the field. He hit five of his seven free throw attempts and controlled the glass as well for Wadena-DC. He finished with a team high of 10 rebounds as the Wolverines held a 41-35 rebounding edge on the Braves.

The Wolverines built up a seven-point first half lead as they took a 25-18 lead into the break. Both teams really came alive offensively in the second half as the Wolverines out-scored the Braves 42-40 in the second half.

Folkestad was the only Wolverine in double figures in the win. Payton Rondestvedt and Dawson Lupkes had nine points each, while Cade Kapphahn finished with eight points. The Wolverines shot 41 percent from the field, hitting on 50 percent of their shots from inside the arc. The Wolverines hit just four of their 19 3-point attempts.

Gavin Hillukka finished with 16 points for Menahga, while Wade Berttunen had 13 and Tristan Aho finished with 12 points. The Braves finished the game hitting 33 percent of their shots from the field. THey were seven of 26 from the 3-point line and were 13 of 32 from inside the 3-point line.

The Wolverines moved their mark to 3-7 and 2-2 in Park Region Conference play. The victory kicked off a three-game road trip. The Wolverines are in action on Jan. 11 in Sebeka and on Jan. 15 in Frazee. The Wolverines next home date is on Jan. 17 when they host the Verndale Pirates.
