Hawley earns section win over Wadena-DC

The Wadena-Deer Creek boys basketball team was hoping to build upon its win over Menahga when they squared off with Section 8AA rival Hawley at the Fargo Civic Center on Feb. 10.

The Nuggets used big performances from Noah Glad, Jayden Carlisle and Gunnar Lawson to pick up a 57-50 victory over the Wolverines. Glad paced the Nuggets with 22 points, while Carlisle ended with 16, while Lawson added 12.

The Nuggets shot the ball well from the field, hitting 48 percent of their shots. Despite losing the rebounding battle to the Wolverines, the Nuggets were able to prevail. The Wolverines out-rebounded Hawley 34-24.

The Wolverines used a balanced attack against Hawley with four players finishing in double figures. Noah Ross led the way with 14 points. Ryan Anderson added 12, while Bereket Loer and Hunter Hawkins finished with 11 each. While the Wolverines were able to force 16 turnovers, they committed 20 of their own in the loss.

The Wolverines are now 11-9 overall and return to action with a road trip on Thursday, Feb. 15 when they take on Pine River/Backus at 7:30 p.m.
