Wolverines take two from Pillager

The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines continued their strong stretch of pitching and timely hitting with a 7-0 and a 4-3 doubleheader sweep of Pillager on May 10.

Justin Dykhoff went the distance in game one. He scattered three hits when he blanked Pillager. He struck out eight and walked five batters.

Preston Warren had three hits, while Colby Schertler and Justin Dykhoff added two hits as well. Noah Ross, Jake Dykhoff, Wyatt Hamann, Isaac Witthuhn and Bryce Cooper added hits as well.

Hamann picked up the win in relief in game two when the Wolverines walked off with a 4-3 victory over Pillager. Hamann delivered the game-winning run. Hamann pitched two shutout innings and struck out three in relief of Noah Ross. Ross pitched five strong innings when he allowed three runs on eight hits. He struck out eight and walked one.

Warren and Ross had two hits each in the win. Jake Dykhoff, Hamann, Colby Schertler and Justin Dykhoff each had hits for the Wolverines. 

The Wolverines return to the diamond with a evening contest against Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale at 7:30 p.m. in Deer Creek on Friday, May 11.
