Wolverines walk-off against OTC at Siebert Field

Wadena-Deer Creek’s Jake Dykhoff out-lasted Ottertail Central’s Brody Rochall as the Wolverines earned a 2-1 victory at Siebert Field on the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus on May 9.

The Wolverines walked-off on an RBI single by Isaac Witthuhn in the eighth, giving the Wolverines their eighth straight win.

Dykhoff and Rochall were in an old-fashioned pitcher’s duel with Dykhoff going the distance to earn the win. The senior pitcher struck out 14 batters, walked two and allowed one run.

Rochall, who didn’t factor in the decision, went seven innings and allowed one run on five hits. He struck out two and walked two.

The Bulldogs took advantage of a free base when Dykhoff hit Cian Buehler to start the second inning. He eventually scored on an RBI single by Dylan Trana for the Bulldogs lone run.

The Wolverines got the run back in the third. Preston Warren reached on a fielder’s choice and came around to score when Dykhoff reached on a fielder’s choice.

Isaac Witthuhn delivered a two-out RBI single in the eighth inning, securing the win for the Wolverines. The inning started with a Jake Dykhoff single, but he was forced out on a sacrifice attempt. Justin Dykhoff moved Lleyten Pettit to second with a ground out and Witthuhn delivered the base knock.

Noah Ross, Dykhoff and Witthuhn had two hits each. Colby Schertler added another hit as well.

Bennett Cameron took the loss in relief. He allowed one run on two hits in two-third of an inning.
