Wadena-Deer Creek senior Justin Dykhoff continued his dominance of Pillager when he pitched his second no-hitter of the season against the Huskies on April 18. The Wolverines cruised to a 7-0 victory behind the senior’s 12 strikeout performance.

Dykhoff has now pitched 14 no-hit innings against Pillager during the season and has struck out 28 Pillager batters. For the season, Parkers Prairie’s Alex Koep has the lone hit against Dykhoff. He is 3-0 with 17 innings pitched, one hit allowed, three walks and 34 strikeouts and one hit batter.

Dykhoff hit the first batter he faced before retiring 11 straight batters. Sam Jensen reached on an error in the fourth inning and Dykhoff followed by retiring the final 10 batters he faced to complete the no-hit bid.

The Wolverines staked Dykhoff to the early lead with a run in the first inning. Max Phillips set the tone at the top of the order with a lead off walk. He eventually scored on a wild pitch, giving the Wolverines the early 1-0 lead.

The Wolverines tacked on four runs in the third inning, giving Dykhoff some insurance to work with. Wyatt Hamann and Colby Schertler each drove in a run, while Chase Nordlund drove in two with a double.

The Wolverines tacked on a pair of runs in the fifth to close out the scoring. Josh Dykhoff singled home a run and Dylan Ness reached on a fielder’s choice, which allowed another run to score for Wadena-DC.

Schertler finished with two hits, two runs scored and a run batted in during the win for Wadena-DC. Justin Dykhoff added a pair of hits as well. Phillips, Josh Dykhoff and Nordlund each had a hit in the win.

The Wolverines are now 4-0 on the season. They return to action with a road trip to Menahga on April 22.
