It was another strong performance for Central Minnesota Boxing when it hosted the annual Region IV Upper Midwest Championships on March 16 at the Maslowski Wellness Center in Wadena.

It was a loaded bout card with 12 boxing matches on the card, featuring boxers from all over the area with the Power Boxing Gym, Lakes Area Boxing, Peek A Boo Boxing, Achilles Boxing, Golden Eagle Boxing, Twin Ports Boxing, Golden Lakes, Nordic Boxing and St. Cloud Boxing all being represented as well as Central Minnesota Boxing out of Wadena.

Matt Umland secured the main event victory when he won by decision. Umland defeated two-time champion Josiah Wieters of St. Cloud Boxing in the main event at 141 pounds. It started a whirlwind week for Umland. He was named the Region 4 best boxer. He was also received the Best Boxer award for the tournament and his main event fight was named Fight of the Night.

Umland will now compete in the Uppermidwest Golden Gloves Championship at the Northern Lights Casino on April 26 and 27. Umland is now on his way to Reno, Nevada as well. Umland will compete on March 22 for the Western Qualifiers, where the winners will compete for the 2020 Olympic Games.

The event started with Power Boxing's Giana Donnelly picking up a decision win over Willmar's Julissa Celis Victoria. Samantha Salfer from Peek A Boo Boxing defeated Codie Holt in the second bout. Power Boxing's Ethan Ruttle defeated Tate Gentry in the third bout at 140 pounds.

James Visser from Peek A Boo Boxing knocked off Thad Becker by decision. Patrick Plowman of Achilles Boxing defeated Vladamir Alvarez by decision at 115.

Detroit Lakes' Preston LaDue was victorious over Central Minnesota's Evan Roggenkamp at 185.

Moorhead's Andreas Cardona defeated Mohammed Makhlouf at 165, while Isayah Smith defeated Dominic Badillo at 135 pounds. Jarvis Jones earned a heavyweight win over Ron Imgrund.

The bout featured a pair of championship bouts with Lorenzo Cardona Jr. picking up a win over Paul Haas at 178 pounds. Ezra Andersen defeated Avery Miller at 201 pounds. The event closed with Umland winning the main event over Wieters at 141.

Trent Petro advanced to the Upper Midwest Championships as well when he went unopposed at 165 pounds. The Upper Midwest Championships take place at the Northern Lights Casino on April 26 and 27.
