Forbath to replace Walsh as Vikings' kicker

The Minnesota Vikings have released struggling kicker Blair Walsh, the team announced Tuesday morning, Nov. 15.

Walsh is 12 of 16 this season on field-goal attempts and 15 of 19 on extra points this season, and finished last season by missing a 27-yard field goal that would have beaten Seattle in the playoffs in a frigid game at TCF Bank Stadium. Instead, the Vikings lost 10-9.

A source said the Vikings are expected to sign Kai Forbath to replace Walsh. He was said to be en route to the Twin Cities.

The Vikings did not immediately announce which kicker will replace Walsh. Last week, the team auditioned six kickers before deciding to stick with Walsh, who was in his fifth season.

Walsh missed an extra point in Sunday’s 26-20 loss at Washington.

The six kickers brought in last week were veterans Forbath, Randy Bullock, Zach Hocker and Travis Coons and rookies Marshall Koehn and Aldrick Rosas.
