John Frederick Husband, age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 30th, at Primrose

Alzheimer’s Assisted Living Facility in Santa Rosa, CA. John was born and raised in Rochester, Minnesota. After earning a degree in architecture John attended Seabury Western Theological Seminary in Chicago. He then became part of an ecumenical team ministry working with university students at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. At the same time, he was asked to be a parish priest at St. Andrew’s by the Lake. That lake was Lake Superior and John discovered the joy of sailing. It was here that John’s children, Ann and Sara, were born and raised. He later continued parish ministry in western Minnesota where he lived on a pristine, prairie lake for 30 years with his beloved wife, Mary. John expanded his passion for ecumenism and inclusivity. He joined with other denominations and the White Earth Tribal Nation to create a greater sense of community in which there would be no outsiders. If John was asked about a central tenet of his faith, he would often say “grace happens”. He used this phrase until he was no longer able to say the words. John was a priest in the diocese of Minnesota for 50 years. John is survived by his wife, Mary Stein-Husband. He is also survived by his daughters, Ann Kraker (Michael), Sara Johnson (Jason), his first wife, JoAnn Carmack, stepdaughters, Kendra Date Schleiker, and Caroline Date (Paul Alexander) and stepson, Paul Date (Robyn). He is also survived by grandchildren, Arleigh, Scotland and Finn Kraker, William and Molly Johnson and Aria Schleiker. There will be a Eucharistic service to celebrate John’s life on Saturday, July 16th, at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 9000 Sonoma Highway, Kenwood CA, 95462.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Memorial Hospice, 439 College Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95401.
