Donabelle Denny

The funeral service celebrating the life of Donabelle “Donna” Denny will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 9, at the Verndale Alliance Church.
Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Donna, age 90, passed away on December 26, 2021, at Lakewood Health System Care Center, Staples, MN.
Donabelle “Donna” was born to John and Alma (Overby) Coleman on January 7, 1931, in Staples, MN.
Donna married Lee Denny on March 30, 1951. They had 5 children; Rick (Brenda) Denny of Otsego, MN; Ronnie (Robin) Denny of St. Cloud, MN; Shari (Brad) Schmidt of Decatur, TX; Roger (Candy) Denny of Crystal, MN; and Randy (Juli) Denny of Shoreview, MN.
Donna’s life was centered around her children and grandchildren She was loved and adored by generations of Verndale athletes as she was ever present in her “Verndale green” sitting in the front row cheering them on. She enjoyed baking pies, family events with intense card games, and watching sports. Donna was famous for spontaneous conversations with random strangers!
Donna’s first job was working at Booner’s Soda Bar in 1949, and then at National Tea. She was employed at Miller True Value in Staples from 1974-1990, working alongside her sister, Juanita and brother-in-law Derald. She was a member of the Verndale Alliance church, serving in the Awana program, and as a Sunday School teacher. Donna was a member of the Verndale Auxiliary Club and the “Birthday Club” for over 60 years.
She will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; along with many relatives and friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Lee (2018); parents, John and Alma; siblings, DeVon Coleman, Iris Tidball, John Coleman, and Bob Rollins.
