The private memorial service for Howard Walther of Wadena, was held at St. John Lutheran Church in Wadena, with Pastor Stephen Meltzer presiding.
Howard went home to be with his Lord at the age of 91, on November 16, 2020, at his home in Wadena, MN, with compassionate care provided by Knute Nelson Hospice.
Howard was born to Rev. Walter and Olga (Kroening) Walther on February 16, 1929, in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Holloway High School in 1946 and earned his B.S. Degree in education from St. Cloud State in 1951. Howard joined the US Army in 1951 and served his country during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1954. He then attended the Minneapolis School of Business where he earned a degree in accounting.
Howard met the love of his life, Elaine Jasmer, and they were married on September 9, 1961.. They resided in nearby Wadena, where they raised their sons, Jeff and Tim. Howard was employed at Goetz-Everson Motors and later worked at Homecrest Ind., as a Sales Manager until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed family vacations, crossword puzzles, gardening, and hiking. Special attention was given to writing Christmas letters, making cards, and attending the numerous events of his grandchildren. He and Elaine traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Mediterranean, Russia, and into Mexico.
Preceding Howard in death are his parents Walter and Olga; son The Reverend Doctor Jeffrey Walther; and sister Eugenie Boese.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Elaine; son, Tim (Gretchen) Walther of Roseville; and daughter-in-law Christina Walther of Esko; grandchildren Naomi Walther, Hannah (Austen) Kovac, Michala Walther and Alex Walther; brother and sisters-in-law, along with numerous nephews and nieces.
Military honors will be provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wadena, MN. Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church, Wadena, MN.
