Marcella Arndt

The funeral service for Marcella Luella Arndt of Staples, formerly of Hewitt, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 1, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples, with Pastor Robin Collins presiding.

 Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Domian-Anderson Chapel in Bertha and will resume at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Marcella, age 93, passed away on October 27, 2021, in Staples, MN. Compassionate care was provided by Lakewood Health System Hospice.

Marcella was born to Arthur and Emma (Hannemann) Meinhardt on March 9, 1928, at home in Bartlett Township, Todd County, MN. 

After graduating from Hewitt High School, she attended Teachers Training in Staples and then taught country school for two years. She married Elmer Gustav Arndt on June 10, 1948 and was a homemaker and mother for many years.  Later, her teaching experience benefited her as a paraprofessional at Bertha-Hewitt School for 23 years. She found great joy in playing cards and visiting with family and friends.

She was a member of the Hewitt and Staples Senior Citizens, Hewitt Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid for 50 years, Trinity Lutheran Ladies Guild in Staples, and the VFW Auxiliary.

Preceding Marcella in death were her husband Elmer (2009); parents, Emma and Arthur; siblings, Ernest (Eunice) Meinhardt, Ruth (Alan) Smith, Alice (Ray) Rooney, Roy Meinhardt; and great-granddaughter, Ava Klokstad.  

Left with loving memories of Marcella are her children, Lester (Patricia) Arndt, of Lake City, Gene (Roxanne) Arndt, of Hewitt, Roger (Laura) Arndt, of Franktown, CO, Linda Arndt, of Staples, and Lori (Brian) Bates, of Staples; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Arthur (Myrna) of Farmington; and sister in-law, Devona Meinhardt of Columbia Heights.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marcella’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Gene Arndt, Aaron Arndt, Roger Arndt, Erik Arndt, Brian Bates and Luke Bates.

Memorials will be directed to Bartlett Immanuel Lutheran Church Perpetual Cemetery Fund.

Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Bartlett Township, Todd County, MN.
