The graveside memorial service celebrating the life of Jill Schafer, of Ottertail, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, at the Wadena Cemetery, with Pastor Ricardo Alcoser presiding.

Family and friends may gather at the cemetery on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Jill, age 73, passed away on May 25, 2021, while in Baxter, MN.

Jill was born to Floyd and Donna (Currie) Erickson on July 16, 1947, in Wadena, MN. She attended Wadena Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1965. Afterward, she attended NDSU and Moorhead State University and attained a degree in Home Economics. Her occupations included teaching Home Ec. in Crookston, being a County Extension agent, a Home Health Aid, and most importantly, a mother.

Jill was united in marriage with William “Bill” Schafer on July 18, 1972, in Switzerland.

Over the years Jill enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. She found pleasure being outdoors when watching and feeding birds, tending her flower and vegetable gardens, and then harvesting the fruits of her labors when canning and freezing. Jill’s creative talents materialized when she was painting, sewing, quilting, or cooking for others.

Preceding Jill in death were her parents, Floyd and Donna; sister-in-law Mary Erickson; and great-grandson Creed.

Memories of Jill will remain with her husband Bill, of Ottertail; children, Heather (Dan) Meyer of Perham, MN, Chris (Steph) Schafer of Hayti, SD, and Erik (Shannon) Schafer of Hazel, SD; 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren; siblings John Erickson of Wadena, Jodi (Mark) Miksche of Long Prairie, and Jeri (Don) Scheller of Wadena; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
