A funeral service for Doris Anderson of Wadena will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Wadena, with Pastor Stephen Meltzer presiding. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Doris, age 80, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020, at the Lakewood System Care Center in Staples, MN.

Doris Mae Anderson was born on November 23, 1939 at home in Wadena to Melvin and Lela Mae (Carter) Nelson. She attended school in Wadena and worked at several restaurants as a cook, eventually owning and operating Dorie’s Diner in Verndale. Privately, she loved gardening, cooking, crafts, and sewing. She enjoyed going out for coffee and loved spending time with her grandkids.

Dorie was preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Lela; daughter Connie and son Jerome; and brothers Melvin Nelson, Jr. and Carl Nelson.

Dorie is survived by her children John (Debbie) of Bluffton, Georgia (Dennis Benson) Toftum of Perham, Mary Wulf of Wadena, Mike (Donna Cronin) of Finlayson, and Deb Teigen of Fargo; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and sisters Janice Gilson of Champlin, Irene (Jerry) Baron of Wadena, and Ruth Bostick of Irrigon, OR.

Honorary pallbearers are Mat Toftum, Lindsey Teigen, Charlotte Sweere, Pamela Marshik, Brittany Springer, Connie Krueger, and Dorie’s great-grandkids. Pallbearers are Ryan Teigen, Andrew Teigen, Cory Anderson, Todd Anderson, Jeff Toftum and Ryan Anderson.

Burial is in Green Lawn Cemetery, Verndale, MN. Arrangements are with the Schuller Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services in Wadena. www.schullerfamilyfh.com
