The funeral service for Marvin May of Bertha, was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bartlett, with Pastor Robin Fish presiding.
Marvin, age 94, passed away May 2, 2019, at the Fair Oaks Lodge, Wadena, MN. He was under the supervised care of Heartland Hospice in Brainerd.
Marvin was born to Ervin and Amanda (Umland) May on November 11, 1924, in Bartlett Township, Todd County, MN. Marvin was united in marriage with Ruby Elaine (Stave) Olson on June 11, 1960, in the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Verndale, MN. He farmed until 1977 when they moved into Bertha. He continued working on a farm and with that knowledge he began to sell farm machinery. For several years after that he worked at the Bertha school, until his retirement in 2005.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife Ruby on November 2, 2009; parents Ervin and Amanda; in-laws Roy and Clara Stave, Martha May and Gregor Schmitz; siblings Vernon May, Verla Stark, and Bernita Schmitz.
Treasuring memories of Marvin will be his children, Lee (Anita) Olson, Roxann (John) Ireland both of Portland, OR, Scott (Tina) Olson of Lubbock, TX and Julie (George) Deiss of Wadena; 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Lisa Dunn, Rebecca Larson, Eric Olson, Katie Mason, Rachael Ireland, Robert Ireland, David Olson, and Shawn Olson. Active pallbearers were Randy Stave, Connie Putz, Michael Deiss, Jeffery Deiss, Tim Wutzke and Larry Pearson.
Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Bartlett Township, MN.
