The First of March saw the last game of the season for the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines as they suffered a 60-36 loss South Sub-Section 8AA's top-seeded Barnesville Trojans.

The No. 8 Wolverines worked hard to stay with the Trojans in the first half. A pair of back-to-back treys from Kennedy Gravelle pulled the Wolverines to within a point, 14-13, before the Trojans caught fire and scored 14 straight points on five shots.

Emma Nielsen canned four three-pointers in the first half and Claire Meyer added two more as the Trojans took a 29-18 lead into the half.

Gravelle knocked down four three-pointers for the Wolverines in the first half to score 12 of her team's points. The Trojans, who entered the game holding their opponents to 45.6 points a game, limited Casey Volkmann to only four points. Volkmann reached a career milestone during the season by topping the 1,000-point scoring mark.

A rested Barnesville club turned up the heat early in the second half to tally nine straight points before Gravelle stopped the run at 13:42 with her fifth trey of the game.

Gravelle finished the night with 22 points while Volkmann tacked up nine. The Wolverines got scoring from four players. They made 12 of their 43 floor shots for a 27 percent average.

Nielsen made all 18 of her points from three-point range. Nicole Herbranson had 13 points in the victory while Meyer and Andria McIntyre netted 11 each. The Trojans shot 35 percent on their homecourt hitting on 22 of 62 attempts.

Herbranson had seven rebounds as the Trojans beat the Wolverines on the boards 30-25. Volkmann grabbed six rebounds for the Wolverines.

Barnesville's defensive play forced 23 turnovers out of the Wolverines who ended their season with a 7-19 mark.

The Trojans improved to 21-5.
